Google’s made numerous changes in the past few weeks, from the introduction of its Google+ social network and the virtual “thumbs up” Plus One to a revamped menu bar. The search giant continued its onslaught of new releases Friday with the announcement of a redesigned mobile search results page with a focus on tablets.

The upgrade, which is “rolling out in the coming days,” includes simplified search results pages and increased text size, buttons, and other icons and touch targets. The goal is to make it easier for Google users to perform searches and interact with pages on tablet devices in both portrait and landscape views.

When the new mobile Google search goes live, the search button located below the search box will let users quickly access specific result types such as Images, Videos, Places, Shopping, and more. Searchers simply have to tap an open search menu and select an option to see results in one particular category.

Google has made changes to the way images are displayed, too. Image results will now feature enlarged image previews, continuous scroll, and faster loading. All in all, it appears that the new Google search results page will greatly enhance the user-experience on touch-centric devices. Google’s new-and-improved tablet search should be available soon on the iPad and Android 3.1 (and higher) platforms. To use it, simply point your browser toward

The update, meanwhile, comes about two weeks after Google released a software development kit for Android Honeycomb 3.2 that made it easier for users and developers to adjust the mobile operating system to the different screen sizes used in Android-based tablets.
