Meg_Whitman_1_displayGoogle takes a certain amount of pride over the fact that its mobile OS platform Android is open source, more flexible than other rivals in the market such as Apple’s iOS and Microsoft’s Windows Phone. However, if we believe what HP’s new CEO Meg Whitman seems to believe, the day is not too fat when Android will eventually turn “close source”.

Apparently, it was Google’s decision to purchase Motorola Mobility that gave the new HP CEO the idea about Android moving towards being close source – a prediction that seems to be too unlikely to come true in most industry experts’ opinion.

Meanwhile, Whitman also went on admitting how it could take the company years to reap the benefits out of its recent decision to make WebOS open source.

“It will take 2-5 years to fully play out, but I believe the industry really needs another operating system,” Whitman said during one of her first public appearance after being chosen as the HP leader, reports Channel Buzz.

Apparently, she also seemed to be of the view that despite the fact that Apple’s iOS is soaring high in terms of popularity, its close-source ecosystem could limit its scopes in the future.
