For months people have been locked up at home because of the COVID-19 pandemic, slowly the world has begun to enter the ‘New Normal’ stage. This new order will certainly change people’s habits when leaving the house.

Shopping malls in Thailand have a robot dog named K9 which is tasked with traveling around distributing hand sanitizers to visitors, of course, in order to avoid the Corona virus.

The K9 is controlled using the 5G system, a technology that promises super fast internet speeds with direct reaction time which is still in the early stages of launching in Thailand.

With its shape like a puppy, K9 attracts many mall visitors in Central World, Bangkok Thailand especially children who want to get a hand sanitizer from a bottle attached to the robot’s back.

“It’s very easy for people to wash their hands, such as preventive measures, especially in the current COVID-19 situation,” said Petra Saktidejbhanubandh, a marketing officer for the Advanced Info Services (AIS) cellular operator.

AIS aims to launch a 5G network for smartphones by the end of this year.

Various robotic devices have been designed by Thai cellular operators with 5G systems such as ROC that can check body temperature and LISA as customer service bots.

“Especially for K9, people just think it’s really funny, Robots are here to help people, not to replace them.” Petra added.

Thailand has gradually lifted restrictions on the business sector, such as taking precautions such as separating customers in restaurants.

Thailand has recorded 3,101 confirmed cases of the virus and 58 died.
