Skype has finally launched a version of their mobile application that’s made specifically for the iPad and it’s 9.7-inch 1024-by-768 resolution screen. The new application went live on Tuesday as Skype for iPad became available in the App Store as a free download.

Now if you’re not familiar with Skype you should know that the service offers users free voice, video and text (instant messaging) chatting between you and other Skype members (over Wi-Fi or 3G for iPad), also you can make voice calls to land lines and mobiles using Skype Credit which does cost money but offers support for other features. To get your self set to use Skype you’ll need to sign-up for a free user account on Skype’s website and get your friends to join too so you can add them to your contacts list for chatting. To get back to Skype for iPad the new application uses a two-pane design in all the areas outside of video chat (instant messaging, contacts manager, settings, etc.), inside chats you’ll get a sleek design that keeps controls and alerts tucked out of your way.
